Chequer House in King’s Lynn has opened a new art space showcasing work from more than 50 independent artists. Gallery Co-ordinator Jackie Kitch explains more

Chequer House Gallery, a new art space featuring works by 50 artists, has opened in King’s Lynn – and hopes to become an exciting cultural hub in the heart of the town. The new home for independent artists, located in King Street, currently features high-end works by 50 artists, in all styles and mediums, and has been a huge success since the Open Day on May 31 which welcomed more than 150 visitors.

Gallery Coordinator, Jackie Kitch, said: “We are over the moon with the turnout for our open day. It was fantastic to see so many people enjoying the artwork and appreciating the quality, we’ve received so many positive comments about the future of the gallery and we are excited for the year ahead!

“This is going to be a fabulous place for art lovers. Not only is the art exceptional and at such a varied range but I believe this is going to be an incredibly popular place for Norfolk, culturally, aesthetically and recreationally.”

The gallery includes paintings, prints, ceramics, photographs and sculptures in a variety of mediums including oil paint, acrylic paint, textiles, wax, ink, stoneware, resin and even hundreds and thousands.

The new space will also feature a reading room and shop selling handmade gifts featuring glassworks, wooden bowls, cards, browser art and framed prints. The reading room will be a peaceful place to sit and peruse the eclectic collection of books on display ranging from antique novels to autobiographies.

Chequer House manager Kim Miller said: “We are very excited to bring this new art space to Chequer House. This gallery will include both up and coming and professional artists and will be permanent. I hope there is something for everyone and for all budgets.”

One of the resident artists is Pinch, of Pinch Paints, who describes Chequer House Gallery as a great new asset for the artistic community: “The team at CHG have done a fantastic job of curating the space. By being with a gallery like this I am now able to paint big art works again. I’m very excited for what the future holds for us both and for all of the other phenomenal artists that the gallery is supporting.”

There will also be exhibitions held in the gallery including a special exhibition for King’s Lynn Festival called ‘Revelation’ from 10th July to 27th July. With more artists signing up to exhibit, and more art being added, the gallery expects to be constantly changing.

Chequer House Gallery, 10–12 King Street, King’s Lynn will remain open permanently, from Wednesday to Sunday, 11am–5pm. For more information and regular updates, follow Chequer House Gallery on Facebook, Instagram and TikTok.
