Folk Features has a new Key Partner: The Mvement Studio, which offers Group Reformer Pilates in Brooke, near Norwich. Founder and coach Emma Stevens shares the story behind the studio, and explains what readers can expect in her regular columns
Who are you and what do you do?
I’m Emma – founder and coach at The Mvement Studio, a Reformer & Wunda Chair Studio Norfolk. I run a boutique, coaching-led Pilates studio in the Norfolk countryside. It’s not about louder, harder, burn-out fitness. It’s about intentional, personalised coaching that helps you feel stronger, more confident and more at ease in your body. Everything is engineered for life – not just for the hour you’re on the reformer.
When did your Pilates journey begin and what do you love about it?
My Pilates journey actually started in dance, as cross-training. I used it for years to support my dancing, but I only really realised the transformational benefits after having children. That’s when it clicked – how powerful it is for rebuilding strength and feeling like yourself again.
What I love is still that detail and control and finding mindfulness in the movement. Tiny tweaks change everything you feel. It’s where strength meets control, and where you walk out feeling better than when you walked in.
What led you to starting The Mvement Studio? What were you doing before?
Before the studio I was working in events alongside dance teaching, and teaching in lots of different gyms and dance studios. As I’ve got older, I wanted movement that supported where I was in my life and actually fitted in with the busyness of working and family life. Being my own boss means I can manage my diary around mum taxi duties and create something of my own.
I wanted to build a happy place – a calm, beautiful, non-intimidating space where there is real community, proper coaching, small groups, and programmes that change the workout but not the work.
Where is the Studio located?
We’re at Park Farm, Brooke, Norfolk NR15 1HR – just 15 minutes south of Norwich, between Norwich and the Broads. It’s a converted farm studio – white walls, wooden floors, beams, plants, beautiful light. Intentionally calm. We are surrounded by a butchers, cafe, hairdressers, florist and dog groomers and with free parking onsite!
Are you Norfolk born and raised? What do you love about the county?
I’m actually originally from Surrey, but I’ve now lived in Norfolk as long as I lived elsewhere – so I’m pretty much an honorary Norfolk girl! What I love is the landscape, the people, and the speed of life as opposed to the south. It’s slower, kinder, more grounded. Norfolk gives you space to breathe – which is exactly what I’m trying to build with the studio, a community space that gives people a chance to breathe and take a moment out in all aspects of life.
What other well-being activities do you offer at the studio?
Reformer is our core offering, and the Wunda Chair is our newest addition to classes for strength, balance and control. We then offer Matwork Pilates, Circuits and Mobility so you can get the full range of classes under one roof!
But the studio is about so much more than just movement. I’m trying to build a community space where you can switch off and tune in. Alongside our movement programme, we run workshops in all craft things – from macrame plant hangers to sea-glass suncatchers and wreath making – anything that helps you switch off and tune in. It’s that creative, mindful reset that is just as important as a workout.
Who is The Mvement Studio aimed at in particular?
It’s for anyone who wants to feel strong and energised in a space that promotes this – but especially women juggling real life. Beginners who’ve never touched a reformer, mums postpartum who want to rebuild, everyday athletes who want to move better for longer, and people who just want a judgement-free space where they’re actually seen and coached. If you want expert coaching in a beautiful space where community matters – that’s who we’re for.
Why did you decide to become a Key Partner for Folk Features?
Folk Features is so Norfolk in the best way – it champions independent, people-led businesses and tells positive stories with a dose of heart of real life. That’s exactly what The Mvement Studio is built on as well.
I wanted to partner with a platform that celebrates local voices, not just listings. After speaking to Emma, becoming a Key Partner felt like a natural fit – I get to share more than just Pilates, I get to share what wellness actually looks like living and working here in Norfolk whilst supporting her to support other businesses like myself.
What sort of things can readers expect to read about in your columns?
Readers can expect columns about fitness, health and myth-busting – but with a good dose of humour and real life thrown in.
Because life isn’t Insta-perfect, if it’s anything like mine it can be pretty messy! I’ll be talking about why consistency beats intensity, pelvic floor and core truth-bombs, reformer myths busted, how to fit movement around actual busy family life, plus behind-the-scenes of running a studio and being a mum and a bit of what and why I love Norfolk thrown in too! Practical tips you can actually use, with no perfection filter.
