The 70-year-old village hall at Hockering in Norfolk has had an upgrade thanks to Norfolk Community Foundation. Trustee George Leslie explains more
Regular users of Hockering Village Hall in Norfolk, from Kung Fu to Yoga groups, can enjoy brighter surroundings thanks to Norfolk Community Foundation, the registered charity dedicated to building stronger communities in the county. The Village Hall, located between Dereham and Norwich, was awarded £3580 for improvements to the electrics late 2025 from the Foundation through the Weston Windfarm Community Fund, which is designed to support projects which benefit the residents the parishes of Weston Longville, Morton on the Hill, Attlebridge and Hockering.
The Fund supported the installation of brighter LED lighting inside and outside the hall, more sockets inside, and provision of external sockets for use during fetes and other events on the grassed area surrounding the hall. The works are now complete.

Brighter lighting will improve the comfort and safety of all who regularly use the hall – the Yoga group, dance class, Kung Fu group, village primary school, and monthly coffee mornings – especially for those with poorer vision.
George Leslie (trustee) said: “This is the latest in a range of improvements to our 70-year-old hall. The more efficient lighting will reduce our electricity usage in the face of rising costs and will help us keep our hire rates competitive.”
Claire Mackintosh MBE, Chief Executive of Norfolk Community Foundation, said: ‘Norfolk Community Foundation is delighted to support this much-needed project that will make a real difference in the community. We wish them every success with their work.’
