Kate’s perfect companion for journeying through grief

Award-winning PR consultant Kate Morfoot has released her first book, Finding Light in the Darkness, a comprehensive and compassionate guide to navigating the complexities of grief. Here she explains what led her to writing the book

Over the years, award-winning PR Consultant Kate Morfoot has faced the heartache of losing friends, loved ones, and dearly loved pets. Each loss brought its own unique pain, yet also taught her  invaluable lessons about love, memory, and the process of healing. With her fiftieth birthday approaching, she found herself reflecting on a journey marked by profound loss – and the resilience it takes to move forward. And her own experiences of grief have inspired who to write her first book, Finding Light in the Darkness.

The essential pocketbook, which is available on Amazon from this week, is designed to be a beacon of comfort, guidance, and hope for anyone facing the profound challenges of loss. The publication is particularly timely as, only last week, Kate had to put her beloved Norfolk Terrier, Fizz, to sleep.

She has run award-winning PR & Marketing agency Jungle PR Ltd since 2004 and has been a travel writer for over 18 years reviewing hotels and restaurants all over the UK and world-wide.

Kate, who lives near Dereham, says: ‘I was born in Norfolk and lived here all of my life apart from when I went to university to study Public Relations and English Literature and the University of Exeter, based at The College of St Mark and St John in Plymouth. I love Norfolk, its history, scenery, beaches and countryside.’

She says of her first book: ‘Finding Light in the Darkness’ is structured to provide a clear, supportive path through the stages of grief, offering practical advice and heartfelt reflections.’

Divided into six insightful parts, the book covers, loss, and understanding the initial shock and impact of loss, the stages of grief, coping strategies, healing, moving forward and helplines for grief and support.

In her note to readers, Kate emphasises the importance of finding solace and understanding during times of sorrow. She says: ‘This book is your personal grief recovery pocketbook, the perfect companion for anyone journeying through grief. Let it be your source of comfort, guidance, and hope as you navigate the path toward healing and renewal.’

Readers will also find information and insights into the grieving process, strategies for coping, tools for honouring memories, self-care practices, guidance for life transitions and inspirational quotes.

Kate says: ‘Find solace, understanding, and hope with ‘Finding Light in the Darkness,’ your essential guide through the journey of grief, whatever shape of form that may be, as it is very personal for everyone.’

The pocket guide might be Kate’s first book, but it doesn’t sound as though it will be her last: ‘I have plans for a children’s book based on characters from my own dogs and creatures from my home.’
