This ‘Giving Tuesday’ (December 2), Norfolk Community Foundation is inviting people help it raise £50,000 to double it to £100,000 – through its Matched for Change appeal. CEO Claire Mackintosh explains what it could mean
With winter drawing in and Christmas just around the corner, Norfolk Community Foundation is inviting people across the county to come together for Giving Tuesday, a day that has become the most generous in the December calendar. This year, Norfolk people’s generosity can go even further. Through the Foundation’s Matched for Change appeal, every pound donated by the public will be matched £1 for £1, up to fifty thousand pounds. This special match fund was made possible by a legacy gift from a long-term supporter, but it can only be unlocked when donations are made. That means every gift, no matter how small, has the power to release twice the support for local people.
So far, more than £17,000 has been donated by individuals and local businesses, unlocking over £34,000 of support for communities across Norfolk. Businesses such as Anglian Home Improvements, Norwich City Football Club and Triple Bottom Line Accounting have already shown their backing, but much of the appeal’s success has been driven by ordinary people choosing to give what they can.
Claire Mackintosh MBE, Chief Executive of Norfolk Community Foundation, said: “Norfolk has a remarkable spirit. We see people quietly helping neighbours, volunteering their time, and giving what they can even when things are tough. Giving Tuesday is a chance to celebrate that kindness and to be part of something bigger. When your donation is doubled, you are helping twice as many people feel supported, warm and connected this winter.”
Donations will help fund warm spaces, food hubs, support for older people, community centres and projects that bring people together at a time when many are feeling the strain. From providing a warm meal to helping keep a community space open, the matched funding makes every pound go further.
