Norfolk-based performer Beverley Bishop is launching a Finding Magic podcast, born out of her journey after losing her son to suicide in 2018. Here, she explains how she has gathered voices from all walks of life to explore how they find moments of joy
North Walsham based award-winning performer, workshop facilitator, and magician, Beverley Bishop is set to launch her inspiring new podcast series, Finding Magic. This personal and thought-provoking series explores where we find magic in our lives – whether through creativity, connection, or the simple wonders of the world around us. Beverley’s journey of Finding Magic began in 2018 after the loss of her son, Jess. She first explored this transformative experience through her play Finding Magic, which delved into grief and the path toward rediscovering joy.
Over the past year, Beverley has extended this journey by running workshops across Norfolk and Suffolk, working with bereavement groups, women’s groups, family groups, community centres, and village halls. These workshops aim to help people reconnect with their own sense of magic – or discover it for the first time – by sharing personal insights, skills, and magical performances with a deeper message.
Alongside these workshops, Beverley has collected voices from participants and beyond, capturing their thoughts on what magic means to them. These recordings have become the foundation for the Finding Magic podcast, developed in collaboration with her longtime friend, producer, and editor Ian Sizeland.
The six-episode series explore different aspects of magic, featuring a main guest in each episode, as well as a rich tapestry of voices sharing their experiences. Themes include:
- The Magic of Family – Featuring Beverley’s own mother as the first guest.
- The Magic of Childhood – A discussion with children’s author Keith Hatton.
- The Magic of Magic – A special episode featuring magician Goldi Goldin.
- The Magic of Place – Featuring Jane Leitch from Freckenham Village Hall and Jackie Hamilton, whose life was transformed by wild water swimming.
- The Magic of Medicine – Featuring Paul Greenhalgh, who speaks about his son Angus’ revolutionary cancer treatment in Austria.
- The Magic Within – A conversation with life coach Cathy Eden.
Beverley says: “I’m so excited about this project. The themes are so varied that I hope they resonate with a wide audience. I truly believe we can all find magic in our lives, and I hope this podcast inspires people to do just that.”
This project was made possible through funding from Norfolk Community Foundation and the National Lottery Community Fund.
