Future Radio breakfast presenter Tom Lorenzo is taking part in a 24-hour broadcast marathon later this month, to raise funds for local charity, Future Projects. Here, Tom explains it will be a big challenge!
Norwich’s Community Radio Station has announced a special 24-hour broadcast marathon to raise funds for local Charity Future Projects. Future Radio is run by volunteers and provides a diverse mix of local content, news, views and music whilst also helping communities to come together to build skills and have their voice heard. The Station’s breakfast presenter Tom Lorenzo will be at the helm from 9am on Thursday August, 29 right through to 9am the following day. Tom will be joined by other presenters and a diverse line-up of special guests, local artists, and musicians.
Listeners can tune in for a day (and night) filled with lively entertainment, live music performances, and information about the work of the charity. Station Management have also promised a few surprises along the way!
The Station is raising funds for its parent charity to help tackle poverty, and deprivation in vulnerable communities. Future Projects delivers programmes of support, advice and guidance, training, volunteering and education to help people. For a small donation on the station’s website, listeners can request a song of their choice and get a shout out on-air.
Tom says: ‘I’m somebody who loves a challenge, and for anyone who knows me personally it’ll definitely be a challenge for me to stay awake for 24 hours, let alone present radio! But it’s all for a wonderful cause and the experience is something I’m really looking forward to. I love Norwich and feel this is a great opportunity to give something back, as well as to showcase the talent we have at Future Radio and across our fine city, to the people of Norfolk and beyond!’
Station Manager Dean Tucker adds: ‘Tom really is a great presenter and all-round lovely man. He only joined us last year having never presented on radio before and now he’s going to be on air for a whole 24 hours! I’m pleased he will be leading Future Radio through this special broadcast. I’ll be with him all the way as well as our fantastic team of volunteers. Whilst Tom is at the heart of this, it really is a coming together of our volunteers and voices from our community to make this something special and, most importantly, raise funds for our parent charity who do a lot of work supporting people in our area in need of urgent help. I’d better stock up on the coffee – but not too much!’
The fundraiser is sponsored by Pizza Express, and Langley Toys are also providing support.
The Future Radio 24-hour broadcast marathon takes place from 9am on August 29 to 9am on August 30. Donations are open on the website futureradio.co.uk for anybody wishing to support the Charity’s work in the most disadvantaged Communities of Norwich. Donations can be made from now and throughout the broadcast. Listeners can tune in to Future Radio on 107.8FM in Norwich, DAB in Norwich, King’s Lynn and Cambridge, online at futureradio.co.uk or ask their smart speaker to “play Future Radio 107.8”.
