Angie Vale and Franzi Scheithauer, who run Suffolk-based consultancy Brand Up, are planning to cycle more than 400km from Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam to Angkor Wat in Cambodia this Autumn. Here, Angie explains why she will set off on her 55th birthday to raise money for three Women V Cancer charities
We are Angie and Franzi, and we run Brand Up, a Brand Consultancy based in Suffolk. Neither of us has been to Southeast Asia, and we have always wanted to go. We are interested in the culture, history, and amazing temples. Cycling allows us to experience the countryside at a slower pace, taking in the sights and sounds.
This challenge appeals to us because we love cycling and have a strong desire to visit these countries. It will be challenging but not too difficult; it’s not a race. We are also raising money for Women V Cancer charities: Breast Cancer Now, Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust, and Ovarian Cancer Action. In the last three years, three of my friends have faced cancer, so it’s important to me personally. We are self-funding the trip, so all the money we raise will go to the charities.
I am a keen cyclist – I took part in Ride The Night for Women V Cancer a few years ago, which was a 100km ride into London through the night. Franzi also enjoys cycling, and we have been training together. We are increasing our distance each week until we reach 90km. We are also running, doing Pilates, and swimming.
We leave on 23rd November, which is my 55th birthday. We will ride from Ho Chi Minh City, the capital of Vietnam, to Angkor Wat in Cambodia over seven days.
Our target is to raise £2,000 between us. We have held a charity quiz, which raised over £500, and we plan on running another in the Autumn. You can support us by donating to our fundraising page. Your help is greatly appreciated!
