Young people are invited to take part in a series of mural and VR graffiti art workshops in Ipswich this month, thanks to creative urban art programme, Wild Walls. Co-organisers Art Eat Events and the Subversiv Collective explain more
Wild Walls, which is funded by Arts Council England, Ipswich Borough Council and Ipswich Central, is inviting young people between 14 and 30 years old to take part in a series of mural art and VR graffiti art workshops this month, with established street artists, such as ATMA and KBDesigns. Art Eat Events and The Subversiv Collective are delivering the creative urban art programme this summer and autumn.
All workshops will lead to the production of four new large murals for Ipswich – and participants will also be able to work with the artists to paint the murals on to walls or urban furniture in the town.
Virtual Reality (VR) graffiti art workshops will take place this weekend – and the resulting art will be exhibited at the University of Suffolk as part of the Wild Walls festival, giving young people the opportunity to showcase their talent.
Co-director of Art Eat Events, Iona Hodgson, who is running Wild Walls with The Subersiv Collective, and is also managing the programme, says: ‘This is a great opportunity for the young people of Ipswich to get involved in lots of exciting activities over the summer and autumn. We encourage young people and artists to get in touch and help us to make a longstanding mark on the town. Once we complete the murals there will be a festival programme open to people of all ages, and we hope to see you there!’
Ian Dance from The Subversiv Collective is leading the delivery of two murals and the VR workshops. He adds: ‘The Subversiv Collective are pleased to be a partner of such an ambitious project for Ipswich. Wild Walls brings creativity to central Ipswich for all to enjoy, from passionate professional street artists and young creatives. It will be empowering for the young people, rewarding for the artists, and great for civic pride.’
