Kieran Lambert will be taking part in the Blickling Half Marathon this Sunday in aid of Sue Lambert Trust, the Norfolk charity founded by his great aunt. Here, he and dad Stephen explain why it’s a cause close to the family’s heart
A team of runners representing Sue Lambert Trust, are taking part in the Blickling Half Marathon this Sunday (March 19) – and one happens to be the great nephew of Sue Lambert, the founder of the Norfolk charity. Dad Stephen Lambert, nephew of the founder and namesake of the Trust, will be proudly cheering from the side-lines as Kieran – along with two work colleagues – tackle the 13-mile course.
The fundraisers will be taking part in Norfolk’s most scenic half marathon, in a bid to raise £1,000, to help the Trust to continue being there for survivors of sexual abuse and sexual assault, by offering free professional counselling and therapeutic support services here in Norfolk.
Stephen says: ‘I spent a lot of time as a child with my aunt Sue and my cousins. We were a close family – aunt Sue and uncle Michael always took us out and we had some great celebrations as a family round aunt Sue’s, especially birthdays and Christmas and the summer BBQ. As a child, I remember the charity being set up, but it wasn’t until I was a little older that I realised what my aunt Sue had gone through; when she openly shared she had been assaulted.
‘I am incredibly proud of all she achieved in her lifetime, to support survivors of sexual assault and sexual violence here in Norfolk, and to see her legacy live on with the Sue Lambert Trust who I follow closely.
‘I’ve always wanted to do my bit, and to help support the charity in whatever way I can, so when my son Kieran said he was going to run the Blickling Half Marathon, for the Sue Lambert Trust, I was over the moon and suggested we try and get a few more friends to run for aunt Sue and the organisation that still honours her name.’
Kieran Lambert adds: ‘I’m really looking forward to race day, now it’s fast approaching. Blickling is such a beautiful, Norfolk landmark, and we’re going to have people there cheering us on, so it should be a fantastic day.
‘We’ve been overwhelmed by people’s generosity and sponsorship so far. The money raised will go to Sue Lambert Trust, a charity which supports survivors of sexual abuse with professional, therapeutic counselling. And they deliver all their incredible services for free. It was first set up by my great aunt and today, continues to be there for survivors, to support and believe people, when they felt they have nowhere else to turn.
‘The more money we can raise, the bigger difference we can make. And, as I run the 13 miles and inevitably hit a brick wall, I’ll be spurred on by the fact that we’re doing it for such an incredible cause, and one that is very close to my family’s heart.’
Satys Air Livery UK Ltd, based in Norwich, has kindly donated £250 to support their effort – and the three runners are well on their way to reaching their £1,000 fundraising target. If you’d like to get them over the finish line, please sponsor them via their Just Giving pages: Kieran Lambert; Chris Matthews; and Katarina Terzieva. The trio will also be joined by a fourth runner on race day: Alice Boesen, a former trustee of the charity, is also competing in one of the charity spaces. Visit Sue Lambert Trust.
