Richard Raindance and Anna Patteson are the event organisers of new family friendly alldayer in Norwich, Scrumptious Sundays. Ahead of the first one, they explain that it will be a chance for adults will be able to enjoy themselves as much as children
Dance music promoter Richard Raindance, who has run the successful Raindance rave events in London since 1989, has had lived his whole life in East London. But life has led him to Norwich, and now he is teaming up with Norwich-based musician and creative Anna Patteson (event organiser Open Ears) to bring an all-day event for all the family, Scrumptious Sundays which will take place on Sunday at Norwich VR Escape Room.
Featuring live music from local talent Louis Coates, a fantastic DJ line up, visuals from Malukymoo, live spray art by Wake, food from Natural Born Grillers, face painting, stalls from local makers, it promises much fun and games to be had by all.
Anna describes the event in more detail: ‘Scrumptious Sundays is a true family event where adults can enjoy themselves as much as the children. We are featuring a lot of local talent from young DJs under 18, through to KelFX’s young breakers, and local legends such as DJs Steve Scratch Wurly (NBD Recordings), Magnificent Biscuits (Soul Roots Radio), Wronger Summer (Grl Dem), and The Mariner of Danu (Soul Roots Radio). The daytime sessions will be an eclectic mix of music for all tastes. The evening’s dance menu will take us through from 6-11pm playing a selection of house, Breaks, Old Skool and DnB served up by DJs Offspring, Rulah and Skyz for the older audience still left dancing. For me, it’s all about getting communities together, getting people involved and listening to amazing tunes with the whole family.’
This is Anna’s first such event, but she says: ‘As a musician and creative – and having a large local network and a shared vision of bringing families and communities together – we work well as a team.
‘We both believe Norwich needs a space where families can go and where the adults can enjoy themselves as much as their children whilst introducing them to fantastic DJ’s and live music.
‘I’m part of the Norwich creative scene. I am the singer in WonKy; I’m also a videographer, photographer and teach ukulele and samba drumming to children and young people in Norwich. I also make clip in your hair fake fur ears which is why I’ve chosen the event promo name! I’ll be selling them at the event.
‘This is a special Sunday all day event for people to come together and party. We want all people (and especially those with families) to have something exciting to go to on a Sunday. This is a lovely venue with ambient lighting and a lot of vibe.’
‘This event is very family friendly, but later in the evening when younger children leave in preparation for school the next day, we’re hoping to attract an older crowd for a bit of drum and bass. We are hoping this is just what the people of Norwich want, and this will be the first of many running every two months.’
Set in the family friendly venue, Steve Pond, who runs Norwich VR will also be offering a discount on their VR escape rooms for the event. If successful, this event will be running every two months and the Anna and Richard are excited for people to get involved with future dates.
Richard’s massively popular Raindance event in London has seen hundreds of thousands through the doors – it was the first ever legal all-night rave which is still going strong. Richard was also the co-founder of Jungle Fever in 1993.
He says of his move: ‘It was a time for a change and a challenge. Life has led me to Norwich and what a surprise. It is a vibrant, creative city, full of entrepreneurs and talent. I look forward to being part of this mix. I’m also really looking forward to putting on regular Scrumptious Sundays Events and of course Raindance Events locally.’
