Why King’s Lynn is calling for Kirsty

Kirsty Tallent Engagement Coordinator Eastern Angles

Kirsty Tallent is the Engagement Coordinator for Eastern Angles Theatre Company, which is delivering a new project called ‘King’s Lynn Calling’ at King’s Lynn Festival next month. Here, Kirsty explains how local people will be able to contribute to the audio trail

Who are you and what do you do?

My name is Kirsty Tallent and I’m the Engagement Coordinator for Eastern Angles. I work within the Engagement and Participation team to design and deliver creative projects for schools, community groups and emerging local artists.

How long have you been involved with Eastern Angles and how would you describe the theatre company and what it does?

I have worked with EA for a year, which is a super exciting regionally focused theatre company, with a broad world view in its approach to creating work with community groups and artists in East Anglia.

What can you say about the King’s Lynn Calling project? What is your role within that?

It’s a participation project as part of King’s Lynn Festival, that invites the people of King’s Lynn to share stories that are significant to them about the town where they live. My role is to support King’s Lynn Festival in gathering stories from young people and community members, to build a soundscape with artist Jack Baxter for an audio trail around the town.

During the first week of the festival, a red phone box will be installed in the Corn Exchange foyer for you to leave your stories. Then, on the 19th of July, you can grab your silent disco headphones and explore the town on a walking tour which brings many King’s Lynn buildings alive.

How does the project help to demonstrate the breadth of the King’s Lynn Festival offer, do you think?

The festival programme is about celebrating the arts and community of King’s Lynn with a variety of activities. One of which is “Nourish” – a satellite session from our Eastern Angles arts and wellbeing programme that is usually based in Ipswich. We will be delivering yoga and guided massage workshops and a daytime disco in King’s Lynn!

Local people can participate in the project – how can people get involved (and when is the deadline for submitting stories)?

The deadline is Friday 4th July and stories can be sent to kirsty@easternangles.co.uk OR visit the King’s Lynn Calling red phone box in person to record your story during the festival.

There will also be workshops before the main event – when is it all taking place?

We have workshops on Tuesday 15th and Wednesday 16th July at 11am – 1pm in the Corn Exchange foyer. Join us for a cup of tea and tell us your unique story about King’s Lynn. These will then feature in our audio trail.

Where can people find out more about Eastern Angles and King’s Lynn Festival in general?
For all information visit easternangles.co.uk and kingslynnfestival.org.uk.

‘King’s Lynn Calling‘, an audio trail created with Eastern Angles Theatre Company and King’s Lynners, takes place on Saturday July 19, 2025, at 11am, 3.15pm and 6.30pm at King’s Lynn Corn Exchange as part of King’s Lynn Festival. Tickets are free (but please book to secure your space). Details are at kingslynnfestival.org.uk. You can send your stories of Kings Lynn to Eastern Angles by July 4, 2025. The workshops, where you can enjoy a cup of tea in the Corn Exchange foyer, take place on Tuesday July 15 and Wednesday July 16, 2025, from 11am – 1pm.
