It’s World Menopause Day – a fitting day to introduce WHEN CIC, a Women’s Health Education Network based in Norfolk with a mission to bridge the knowledge gap nationwide. Specialist Nurses Victoria Howell, Donna Loose and Katherine Pleace explain more
Women’s Health Education Network Community Interest Company, or WHEN CIC, is poised to make waves in the healthcare sector with its mission to revolutionise women’s health education. Founded by three powerhouse women’s health specialist nurses, Victoria Howell, Donna Loose, and Katherine Pleace, the network aims to bridge the knowledge gap in women’s health and improve patient experiences nationwide. Collectively, these inspiring leaders boast over 70 years of expertise in supporting women through various health challenges.
The launch event of WHEN CIC is set to take place on November 13, 2024, at The Nest, Horsford, Norwich, bringing together stakeholders, healthcare professionals, business leaders, and advocates eager to support this vital cause. The trio behind the initiative are driven by the alarming reality that women’s health knowledge is often insufficient in local healthcare settings, leading to inadequate care and distressing patient experiences.
Victoria Howell, one of the co-founders, shares the motivation behind the creation of WHEN CIC: ‘We witness first-hand the struggles women face due to a lack of understanding and education in women’s health. Our vision is to arm healthcare professionals with the tools and confidence to provide the best possible care. By doing so, we can ensure that women are no longer left feeling unheard or misunderstood.’
The founders of WHEN CIC are committed to providing high-quality, evidence-based education to healthcare professionals, ensuring that women receive the care they deserve. The network’s offerings extend beyond traditional methods, including face-to-face study days and conferences, as well as a calendar of webinars throughout the year. This multi-faceted approach allows for maximum reach and accessibility, breaking down geographical barriers to knowledge sharing.
Donna Loose, another co-founder, adds: ‘Our goal is to create a ripple effect across the UK. By educating HCPs, we aim to empower women to seek and receive the right care, knowing they are supported every step of the way.’
While the organisation is based in Norfolk, WHEN CIC’s reach is not confined to the region. The founders are fervent advocates for collaboration and are eager to take their services on the road, sharing their expertise and resources across the UK. They believe that joining forces with other like-minded individuals and organisations can create a more informed and empathetic healthcare landscape for women everywhere.
Katherine Pleace, the third co-founder, emphasises the importance of their work: ‘Too many women suffer in silence with undiagnosed symptoms, feeling isolated and unsure of where to turn. We want to be the beacon of support that lights the way to appropriate care.’
The launch event promises to be an evening of networking, learning, and inspiration. Attendees will have the chance to meet the founders, engage with industry leaders, and discover the plethora of resources available through WHEN CIC.
WHEN CIC launches on November 13, 2024, at The Nest, Horsford, Norwich, from 6.30-8.30pm. Dress code: business casual. Tickets available via direct invitation and Eventbrite. Those interested in attending are encouraged to express their interest by emailing whennorfolk@gmail.com.
