Haychley and Debbie curate markets for local makers and artists in East Anglia. With The Lovely Handmade’s inaugural Summer Market taking place at Waterloo Park in Norwich tomorrow (Saturday July 9), Haychley hopes the choice of venue will build on local community spirit
Following the success of their pop-up shops in Norwich city centre last year, the two women behind The Lovely Handmade are now organising curated markets in a local community hub. The Lovely Handmade is run by Haychley, linocut printmaker at Stellabox Designs based in Norwich, and Debbie, resin artist at ottoloki, also based in Norwich. They have two summer markets and one Christmas market planned with a selection of the best local makers and artists from around Norfolk.
Their first market of the year will be held tomorrow (Saturday July 9) and features a wide selection of makers including ceramicists, printmakers, plant sellers and jewellery makers.
Their pop-up shops last year had spaces available for new first-time makers and sellers and this is something they’ve continued this year, with people who are new to the market scene being able to share a table and hopefully build their confidence.
The markets will be held in upstairs in the large room at The Feed Cafe in Waterloo Park, Angel Road, Norwich – The Feed is a social enterprise in Norwich working to prevent homelessness and food poverty. Several community groups already meet there, and they hope their markets will be a lovely addition to the community spirit there.
Haychley says: ‘We were really conscious to choose a location for our first market that had a community ethos and was as inclusive and welcoming as possible. The Feed is such a hub, for local people coming together and in such a beautiful setting. After our first meeting with the manager there we knew we’d fit right in, our ethos matched well with theirs. The cafe serves fantastic food and drink which is always so busy, so we hope to entice folks upstairs to our market to see our makers and meet friends too. We’ll have a range of price points available and different styles, even just supporting them with a card can make a real difference.’
The line-up for their first summer market in July features the following local makers; Whittlewood, Tori Ames Studio, One of a Kind Club, The Flora Candle Company, Safi Butler Art, ottoloki, Alex Harvey Ceramics, Adorned and Adored, Stellabox Designs, Smith & Strange, Lucky Bear Norfolk, Darling Aslan, Rosemary’s Cottage, Soil and Bean, Danielle East Art, Stevie Paints, Connie Illustrates, and Tuesday Crew!
The Lovely Handmade summer markets take place tomorrow (Saturday July 9), at the first-floor community room at Waterloo Park Pavilion Café, and Saturday August 6. The Christmas market is on Saturday November 26. All markets are open 10am until 3pm and are free to enter. Children and dogs are welcome and there is free parking on site in Waterloo Park. There is also a lift in the café building for accessibility up to the main hall. Further details can be found on their website, www.thelovelyhandmade.co.uk.
