Art for all

January 18, 2023 Leave a Comment

Grace Adam has led workshops at the National Portrait Gallery, Courtald and Tate. And from next week the artist and lecturer based in both London and Suffolk is bringing an series of creative workshops and talks to a studio in a cherry orchard near Beccles

Artist Grace Adam lectures at Chelsea College of Arts and the Royal Academy and can be found presenting The Art Channel on YouTube. She’s led workshops at the National Portrait Gallery, Courtauld, and Tate – as well as with community groups, schools, and colleges and now, an exciting new series of artist-led creative workshops and talks are arriving near Beccles.

Work and Play. Mixed Media, Grace Adam

They will feature everything from portraits to sculpture and talks from Cezanne to Modernism. All will be led by Grace, who featured in last summer’s Sculpture in the Valley and splits her time between teaching in London and pursuing her own art in Suffolk.

The workshops, which start on January 21 with ‘Create a Portrait’, will unfold in a studio in a Raveningham cherry orchard and are for all abilities.

They will cover portraits, modernist painting, cut-outs, and collage, 2D into 3D, abstraction, sculpture with found objects, creating an artist’s book, still life and figure drawing.

Grace Adam is clear about making them comfortable as well as creative, saying: ‘We’ll start with a short PowerPoint and some context; then materials are provided – as well as hot drinks. However experienced you are, the tuition will be relaxed and individually tailored.’

The illustrated talks, meanwhile, start on January 20, with Making Modernism at the RA. There will also be talks about Cezanne at Tate Modern; plus Spain and the Hispanic world at the RA.

As someone with a foot in both London and East Anglia, Grace is hoping the talks will have a dual purpose. ‘They might be a substitute for that London exhibition you can’t make, or preparation if you’re going. Find out about the artists, and how the exhibitions are curated.’

The workshops run from January 21 to June 3, from 10am-3pm – with all materials provided. The talks run from January 20 and February 17, from 7-9pm, with a glass of wine or a coffee provided. All the workshops and talks will take place in a studio in a Raveningham cherry orchard near Beccles. For more details and to book: graceadam.co.uk and waveneyandblytharts.com
