Former police detective turned author Sophie Leone has independently published her second book, ‘The Reckoning’, a poetic exploration of our relationship with faith, hope and trust. Here she explains why she’s getting out of her comfort zone again
Can you remind people who you are and what you do?
I am an author, writer, performer and expression facilitator. Through my written and voice transmissions, I invite my audience to feel the might of their being, exploring all their facets, light AND dark, holding up a mirror to explore the truth of who we are at our essence so that we may reconnect to it and bring love and vitality back into the heart of humanity.
We last featured you in 2021 – what have you been up to since then?
Back then, I’d not long left a 15-year career as a police detective. I was exploring what it was to release from the pressures and the conditioning from society. I had begun to build in REST into my days as mother and yoga teacher. This place of rest, whether laying on my back daily, letting go for 20 minutes or sitting by the river, slowly brought up desires from old, which had been buried. Those desires spoke louder and required expressing, through my pen and paper. I wrote and wrote and wrote, until I very clearly received the firm whisper on my way to the bathroom one day to: WRITE THE BOOK. So, I did, resulting in the publication of my first book, ‘The Book of Revelations’, in September 2021.
This launched me into a whirlwind of fresh experiences as a writer, both the exquisite feeling of speaking to my readers’ souls and the reality of what it takes to be in the business of being both author and publisher. It is this latter part which encapsulates the themes of my second book, The Reckoning.
How was The Book of Revelations received?
My readers found the book thought provoking, groundbreaking, inspiring and relatable. I knew when I was writing some pieces that they were powerful, but it’s not until people send you messages saying they keep the book by their bedside for some deep soul medicine or repeatedly share lines and poems with tags of ‘This book has touched my soul’ that you realise something greater than me was asking to put this book out there. It is a book for humanity. A book of hope. Its themes are both eternal and of their time and my wish is for it to spread out further and further and touch more humans who deeply need to feel seen and less alone.
What is your new book, The Reckoning, all about?
The Reckoning is a poetic exploration of our relationship with Faith, Hope and Trust, when it seems nothing outside is materialising, despite our ‘faithful’ commitment to ‘inner work’.
The Reckoning is for you, who went all in with the feathers, incense and tarot cards. For you, who took the leap, expecting the riches of the Light and was instead met by She, the inner ‘dark’ voice who was still living inside you, even though you thought you were SO spiritual.
In The Reckoning, I surrender my personal story to the inner dark muse and her spiky, no-nonsense energy, giving her free rein to unearth and express the ‘hidden in the body’ truths as we bear witness to the weight of unmet expectations.
The Reckoning offers support as the creative, empowering voice emerging through the pages, fiercely holding, guiding and loving your dark muse, all the way from the glorious stickiness back to LOVE.
What’s next for you? Will there be another book?
I hope so! I have so much I want to express! I’m an eternal observer/spy who loves to translate what I see into lines that dance for people, so let’s see.
I’m hearing whispers around getting back ‘out’ there to meet people face to face – I don’t know how this looks at the moment, whether it’s a tour or a performance of sorts, but it feels like my next level get out of your comfort zone mission quest!
