Jason Borthwick is one of the partners behind Deepdale, the award-winning, eco-friendly campsite and rooms in Burnham Deepdale which celebrates a decade this month. Here, Jason explains what makes this part of North Norfolk so special
Who are you and what do you do?
I’m Jason Borthwick. I have various roles, including being one of the partners in Deepdale Camping & Rooms, primarily doing the marketing and social media.

What led you to starting Deepdale 10 years ago? How would you describe the business?
Deepdale Camping & Rooms is the newest incantation of the campsite and accommodation offering at Deepdale Farm. The campsite and original bunkhouse were created by my parents 40 years ago, and over the decades we’ve upgraded and expanded the facilities, making sure we’ve kept the rural friendly feeling. Deepdale now offers camping for campervans, motorhomes, tents, trailer tents, roof tents and hammocks; along with 16 rooms, 12 ensuite, and 4 shared facility rooms. Our reception is a full-blown tourist information centre and camp shop, and we also offer bike hire.

How special is this part of North Norfolk to you?
This beautiful part of the world gets under your skin and into your soul. The big skies and wide-open spaces are so refreshing. You can clear your lungs and your mind and find a space away from everyone and everything. Summer is busy, so my favourite time of the year is when there is a nip in the air and you need warm clothes for the beach, but can relax by the fire in a local pub.
How has Deepdale evolved over the past decade?
The basic concept is what we designed decades ago, welcoming accommodation in a beautiful place, and that hasn’t changed. We’ve adjusted the offering from backpacker style accommodation to outdoor enthusiast accommodation, creating a base for active visitors to this beautiful part of the world. We’ve significantly improved the facilities over the years, building new shower blocks, adding electric hookups, planting hedges, installing site lighting, outdoor showers, dog showers, a few hard standing pitches, and converted group rooms to double rooms. Oh, and we created a live music venue in the old barn, so we haven’t stood still over the last decade.
How are you marking the anniversary this year?
We had a superb Deepdale Festival, welcoming over 50 acts, and we were awarded the Best Campsite United Kingdom in the ACSI Awards 2026, so a great celebration.
How can people find out more about Deepdale?
The best place to start is on our website – deepdalecamping.co.uk. On there you can find information about all our facilities, guides to the local area, a huge calendar of events, and our podcast on which we chat to lovely people from the area.
Are you looking forward to another 10 years and are there any plans you can share?
The next 10 years will probably be more of the same, helping lovely people find their North Norfolk Hygge. The team are passionate about helping people enjoy the area, and this next decade will probably need to be a decade when people find their happy places and enjoy them, and we hope Deepdale and the North Norfolk Coast will be that for many people. We are always planting and upgrading, so that will always be part of the future too. But most importantly we look forward to welcoming lots of interesting people to the place we love.
