Welcome to your spring skin reset

Louise Thomas Skin Care

This month, Skin Health Therapist Louise Thomas-Minns, Founder of Louise Thomas Skin Care, suggests a spring skin reset – and explains how March is a time of renewal

March invites a quieter kind of renewal. The intensity of January’s “new year, new you” energy has softened, and what we’re often left with is a deeper desire — not for restriction or extremes, but for balance. A return to what we know works. A rebuilding of simple, foundational habits that support us long-term. When it comes to your skin, this is where true change begins.

Not with unrealistic diets.
Not with detoxes.
But with nourishment.

True skin health doesn’t start with what you put on your skin. It starts with what you put in your body.

As a skin therapist and founder, I’ve spent years treating skin from the outside in — but the most transformative results always come when we support the skin from within. This is where nutrition for skin barrier health, glow and resilience becomes essential.

Welcome to your spring skin reset.

Skin Health From Within: Why Nutrition Matters

Your skin is your largest organ, and it is constantly responding to your internal environment. Stress, inflammation, dehydration, nutrient deficiencies and blood sugar fluctuations often show up on the skin before we notice them anywhere else.

If you’re experiencing:

  • Dull or tired-looking skin
  • Sensitivity or an impaired skin barrier
  • Breakouts or congestion
  • Dryness despite using high-quality skincare

…it may not be your products that are the problem.

Skin health from within is about giving your body the building blocks it needs to repair, protect and regenerate naturally. Think of your skincare routine as support — but nutrition as the foundation.

Foods for Glowing Skin: What to Focus On This Season

A radiant complexion isn’t created by restriction. It’s created by consistency.

As we move into spring, this is a beautiful time to gently refresh and refocus on nourishment.

1. Healthy Fats for Skin Barrier Repair

Your skin barrier relies heavily on lipids. Without enough healthy fats, skin can become dry, reactive and prone to inflammation.

Include:

  • Avocado
  • Extra virgin olive oil
  • Nuts and seeds (especially walnuts, flax and chia)
  • Oily fish such as salmon, sardines and mackerel

These support strong barrier function, helping skin retain moisture and defend against environmental stressors.

2. Antioxidant-Rich Foods for Glow

Antioxidants protect the skin from oxidative stress caused by pollution, UV exposure and internal inflammation — all contributors to premature ageing.

Focus on:

  • Berries (frozen are just as powerful and often more cost-effective)
  • Dark leafy greens such as spinach, kale and rocket
  • Green tea
  • Colourful vegetables like beetroot and red peppers

The more colour on your plate, the more protective compounds you’re feeding your skin.

3. Protein for Repair & Renewal

Collagen, elastin and keratin — the proteins that keep skin firm and resilient — require adequate dietary protein to be produced.

Support this with:

  • Eggs
  • Lentils and legumes
  • Organic chicken or turkey
  • Tofu or tempeh
  • Grass-fed beef or lean venison

Protein supports healthy skin cell turnover and recovery, especially after periods of stress or depletion.

4. Gut-Loving Foods for Clearer Skin

Your gut and skin are deeply connected. An imbalanced gut can contribute to inflammation, breakouts and sensitivity.

Support gut health with:

  • Fermented foods such as sauerkraut, kimchi and kefir
  • Fibre-rich vegetables
  • Whole grains
  • Plenty of water

When digestion improves, skin clarity often follows.

Drink Your Skincare: Hydration Beyond Water

Hydration is about more than simply drinking more water — although that remains essential.

To support skin from within:

  • Start your morning with warm water and lemon
  • Include herbal teas such as nettle, chamomile or green tea
  • Add electrolytes if you exercise regularly
  • Eat water-rich foods like cucumber, celery and citrus

Well-hydrated skin appears plumper, calmer and more resilient — one of the simplest ways to enhance natural glow.

What to Gently Reduce (Not Eliminate)

March isn’t about punishment. It’s about awareness.

Rather than cutting everything out, consider gently reducing:

  • Excess sugar
  • Alcohol
  • Ultra-processed foods

The goal isn’t perfection — it’s support.

A Reset That Lasts

At Louise Thomas Skin Care, we believe in skin intelligence — supporting the skin so it can function optimally rather than forcing quick fixes.

When you combine:

  • Thoughtful skincare
  • Rest and stress management
  • Nourishing, skin-supportive foods
  • Targeted support for skin barrier health

…you create lasting, sustainable change.

This season, instead of chasing extremes, choose nourishment.
Eat your skincare.
Drink your skincare.
Support your skin from within — and let your glow build naturally.

With love,
Louise x
