WalkNorfolk Festival 2024 – Whitlingham Country Park

September 29

Welcome to the WalkNorfolk festival. Created in October 2022,  it is one of the most diverse and innovative walking festivals in the country. The festival takes place every October and celebrates Norfolk’s incredibly rich natural landscapes, heritage and history and much more with guided walks taking place right across the county. The 2024 festival will launch on Sunday 29th September. Walks all over Norfolk will take place during October. It is a great way to discover parts of Norfolk you may have never visited before, learn about the county’s incredible natural wonders, history and heritage, and make new friends whilst walking and talking.

The 2024 Festival will launch on Sunday September 29 at Whitlingham Country Park with three different walks which are free to attend:

Noticing Nature (11am-1pm)

Join photographic artist Rachel Wright on a photo walk around Whitlingham Great Broad to creatively connect with the watery habitat. The walk will feature a series of creative prompts to help you use your cameras to notice and connect with the environment, taking in the colours, textures and details of the surroundings. Make sure to bring your mobile phone or a camera (nothing technical, no experience or fancy equipment required!)

The Herbs that Time Forgot – exploring extraordinary everyday plants (11am-1pm)

Explore and discover more about the fascinating cultural relationship we have with Norfolk’s native plant flora from pre-history right up to the present day. Find out about the past uses, history, folklore and myth associated with common everyday plants on a gentle stroll around the country park. Along the way we will nibble on forgotten foods, uncover ancient remedies and sample hedge-herb tea.

Life is Beautiful with Nature, – BSL Signed (11am-12.30pm)

Join Graeme Hewitt for a personal insight into the role of the Ranger and the highs and lows of running a country park. From turning independent in 2020, working through the pandemic and a look at what is next for Whitlingham we hope you will enjoy this relaxed and light-hearted walk around the park. This walk will be BSL signed.
