Shakespeare’s Big Birthday Bash – St George’s Guildhall, King’s Lynn

April 28 @ 11:00 am - 3:00 pm

To mark the anniversary of William Shakespeare’s birthday St George’s Guildhall, in King’s Lynn, is hosting a Big Birthday Bash on 28 April.

From 11am to 3pm there will be a range of free Tudor themed family activities and exciting workshops taking place.

There will be live Tudor music and Tudor games for families to get involved in, craft sessions for you to make a variety of crafts to take home, along with the chance to meet Queen Elizabeth I and learn how to greet a monarch.

All ages will enjoy testing their aim on the archery range run by Grey Goose Archery. Also you can meet some birds of prey with the team from The Animal Experience.

A live theatre show about Robert Armin is being performed by Time Will Tell, called The Play’s the Thing.

Families can explore with the Shakespeare’s stage-keeper scramble family trail. Find the ‘Shakespearian props’ hidden around the site. They have labels tied to them which say the names of the play they correspond to. Then match the prop to the play on the free trail sheets.

Between 12 and 2pm the Collusion team will help people immerse themselves in folklore in the White Barn. They will be experimenting with projections to explore forgotten local histories, especially looking at some of the ghosts of the past. Witches and ghouls are associated with The Bard almost as much as they are to King’s Lynn. Pop in and play with new creative technology. There will be an opportunity to meet with the Collusion team to find out how you can take part in their upcoming projects.

Refreshments will be available to purchase over the weekend from a pop-up bar in the Red Barn.

There is no need to book for these activities, which are being provided free of charge thanks to funding from the Borough Council of King’s Lynn & West Norfolk and the UK government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund. Activities have been organised in association with Norfolk Museums Service.
