‘Paz y Amor’ (‘Peace and Love’) Exhibition – The Bell Gallery, Bungay

This August, Waveney Valley artists Paul and Ally Zawadzki present their first joint art exhibition ‘Paz y Amor’ (‘Peace and Love’), at The Bell Gallery, Bungay, featuring new work celebrating the unpredictability of nature and looking beneath the surface of the landscape that surrounds us.
The show runs from Monday 19 – Saturday 31 August 2024, 10am – 4.30pm Monday – Friday, with a Private View on Tuesday 20 August from 5pm.

The two Bungay-based artists have adopted the principle of ’embracing the happy accident’ often sharing resources as well as ideas: matter from one piece often kick-starts another. Both work in a tactile and physical manner, spontaneously employing materials such as cement, recycled fabric, acid staining, distressed canvas, rusted steel, poured varnish, dust and detritus and, occasionally fire, in their quest to capture the spirit and texture of the landscape. Paul, currently inspired by his love of the landscape at Covehithe and Dunwich on the North SuHolk coast, also employs traditional oil painting techniques from his 40-year passion for the medium.
Paul and Ally are keen to welcome visitors and discuss their work at the opening reception at the Gallery on Tuesday 20 August from 5pm. Special guest at this event is Beccles-based poet and singer Lynne Nesbit, who will be performing specially written poems in response to selected artworks on show. Lynne and the two artists find a mutual inspiration in each other’s creativity which, itself, inspires new work. For this event the poet will move throughout the gallery giving her personal empathetic reactions to selected artwork on show.

Ditchingham-born Paul has recently completed an MA in Fine Art at Norwich University of the Arts and is currently Chairman of the Norfolk & Norwich Art Circle, with Surrey-born Ally as Vice Chair. They both regularly take part in exhibitions in East Anglia, while Paul, a regular exhibitor at the Royal Norfolk Show and member of the Harleston & Waveney Art Trail Collective, also exhibits in Venice, New York, Paris and London, with over 600 works held in private collections around the world.
