Knap – An exhibition of ceramic sculptures, paintings and drawings, by Grace Adam – Mandell’s Gallery, Norwich

August 10 - August 31

A solo exhibition by Grace Adam of ceramic sculptures and large-scale drawings based on flints.
Ancient, durable and beautiful, humans have shaped and used flint for over 3 million years –
knapped into tools, axes and engraving implements.
Moving between naturalistic and abstract, the artist explores the synergies between the facets
that appear during the knapping process and the compositions of cubist paintings.
Glazed and fired clay in blacks, whites, greys with traces of the delicate pinks and blues these
ceramic sculptures reflect the colours that are revealed when the stones are cracked open.
East Anglia is famous for its flint, and large-scale charcoal drawings and watercolours explore
some of its architecture and tools.
