Uplifting stories for Norfolk and Suffolk
Norwich Castle Museum & Art Gallery is thrilled to announce the exhibition Catherine Maude Nichols: Making her Mark, which opens on Saturday 29 June.
Catherine Maude Nichols (1847-1923) was born in Norwich and lived all her life in the city. She was a prolific and gifted artist who was able to sustain a successful professional career, unusual for a woman of the time, and who deserves to be better known today.
Nichols was a particularly accomplished print maker, producing drypoint prints of the highest quality. This talent led her to become only the third woman to be elected a Fellow of the Society of Painters-Etchers, and she exhibited her work in Norwich, around the UK and abroad.
Catherine Maude Nichols: Making her Mark showcases her talent and explores how this independent and ambitious woman developed her artistic career.
