Lowestoft artist and illustrator Daisy McComb has been selected as this year’s official poster artist for Sunrise Film Festival. Here, Daisy explains how she wanted to create something that encapsulated the spirit of Lowestoft and the Festival
As excitement builds for the return of Sunrise Film Festival in 2025, organisers are proud to announce the winner of the festival’s first-ever poster competition. Local artist and illustrator Daisy McComb has been selected as this year’s official poster artist, with her vibrant and bold design set to represent the fourth edition of the much-loved Suffolk-based film festival.
Daisy, who is from Lowestoft, is known for her artwork inspired by nature, spirituality, and everyday life. Her winning design pays homage to the town’s scenic coastline, capturing the view from East Point Pavilion, an iconic seafront venue where she worked for the past two years. Featuring the rocky shoreline next to Lowestoft’s South Pier, the artwork reflects the festival’s deep-rooted connection to its coastal home, blending bright, eye-catching visuals with a nod to the creative essence of Sunrise Film Festival.
“I wanted to create something that truly encapsulated the spirit of Lowestoft and the festival,” says Daisy McComb. “Sunrise Film Festival has become such an important creative force in our town, and it’s an honour to have my artwork chosen to represent this year’s edition and can’t wait for everyone to see it showcased around town before the lead up to this year’s festival.”

Sunrise Film Festival has grown into a key cultural event in the region, celebrating independent cinema while creating a platform for emerging filmmakers. Since its launch, the festival has proudly screened over 420 indie films and presented 44 awards, becoming both a BFI Film Audience Network-backed and BIFA-qualifying festival for British Short Films. More than just a film festival, Sunrise is dedicated to bringing independent cinema to new audiences and championing diverse voices in storytelling across local communities.
As the festival gears up for its highly anticipated programme launch in the first week of April, audiences can expect an exciting mix of screenings, industry Q&As/Talks, and networking opportunities. This year, the events will once again take place across the historic Marina Theatre, the festival’s headline venue, and Sam’s Wellbeing Hub + Café for more intimate gatherings.
Festival founder Joshua Freemantle shared his enthusiasm for this year’s collaboration, stating: “Daisy’s design perfectly embodies what Sunrise Film Festival is all about creativity, community, and the unique beauty of Lowestoft.
“As we prepare for our fourth edition, we’re proud to continue providing a space for filmmakers, artists, and storytellers to share their work and connect with new audiences. This festival is all about celebrating emerging talent, and her artwork is the perfect way to introduce the magic of this year’s edition.”
The 2025 festival campaign will see Daisy’s artwork featured across official festival guides, posters, and promotional materials throughout the town. With its continued commitment to accessibility, inclusivity, and championing fresh voices in cinema, Sunrise Film Festival has become the UK’s largest celebration of Diverse Stories & Underrepresented Filmmakers since inception in 2021.
