Andrew Brammer is not only a Company Director for a manufacturing company in North Walsham, Norfolk – he is also a storyteller. And part of his ‘lockdown inspiration’ was to bring back his zany ‘Stumpy Sanderson 1970s Stories’ as podcasts, to give people some laughs along the way
By day Andrew Brammer is a Commercial Director for a successful North Walsham manufacturing company, but by night, and weekends, he is a humorous storyteller and radio presenter. And last year Andrew started bringing back his very popular Stumpy Sanderson’s 1970s Stories, this time as podcasts. Some of these zany and madcap tales were first performed in sell-out shows at various theatres and venues in the UK and Ireland between 2009 and 2014, and as well as all the old favourites being included in the podcasts, there are also brand-new stories and humorous songs. All these stories tell of the outlandish japes, scrapes and capers that a group of mischievous working-class boys got up to and into while growing up in the 1970s.
‘After putting away the adventures of Stumpy and gang for a few years, I thought it would be a really nice idea to bring them back, and this time in a different format. Hopefully, the tales will again bring some cheer, chuckles and chortles for people, and give them the chance to enjoy some laughs and humorous nostalgic memories. And this time around, there are also some humorous songs to accompany the stories. I think it’s so important for people to be able to enjoy being immersed in stories, and if along the way I can bring a few laughs and smiles to someone’s day I have done my job’, says Andrew.
At the time of writing, there are already some 14 stories that have been released, with two new episodes coming out at the end of every month. With such bizarre titles as ‘Bendy and the Snowball of Terror’, ‘Mrs Sanderson’s Sledgehammer’, and ‘The Incredible Shrinking Stumpy’, the podcasts can be heard via all major podcast outlets (Apple, Spotify, YouTube etc.).
Andrew also presents a whacky fortnightly radio show of Stumpy Sanderson’s 1970s Stories on the North Norfolk community radio station Poppyland Radio. The show looks back at growing up in the 1970s through the nostalgic eyes of the five main members of Stumpy’s gang. As well as a full-length Stumpy story, the show also contains such features as: ‘Bendy’s Time Tunnel’, ‘Stumpy’s Fashion Check A-Ok’, ‘Brookman’s Revolutionary Soapbox’, ‘Puffer’s TV Memories’, ‘Milton Sisters Alerts ‘and ‘Blakey’s Poetry Corner’, as well as including some killer 1970s sounds. Andrew’s show goes out every second Tuesday, is then repeated on the Sunday, and all previous shows can also be listened to again.
Andrew is also planning on getting back on stage for some live appearances towards the end of this year and early next year, and he has some further exciting plans to try to bring some nostalgic laughs and merriment for people from the world of Stumpy Sanderson.
