Meet the Waveney Foxes, the under 12s girls’ football team all kitted out for their new season, thanks to Castle Quarter in Norwich
A girl’s football team from Waveney has secured new kit sponsorship for the 2023/2024 season, enabling the girls to continue playing the sport they love. Castle Quarter in Norwich was unveiled as the new kit sponsor for the Under 12 Waveney Foxes last week as the team got together for pre-season training in Lowestoft.
When the new season kicks off in September, the Foxes will play in Division One of the Norfolk Women & Girl’s Football League, facing opposition from both Norfolk and Suffolk.
The Waveney Foxes first formed in 2021, following the FA’s backed Wildcats programme which encouraged more girls to get into the sport. Now, the team has been placed in Division One for their first fully competitive season, as they progress to a nine-a-side game. They will play their home games at Dip Farm in Lowestoft.
Mark Dorling is the Waveney Under 12’s Foxes manager and says: ‘Most of the girls were completely new to football, and since joining the team, they’ve learnt new skills, formed new friendships and are about to start their third season together.
‘It’s great to see how the girl’s and women’s game has grown, both on the pitch locally and nationally over the past few years. As a coach, it is amazing to be part of the next generation of female footballers coming through. On behalf of the whole Waveney Under 12 Foxes team, thank you to Castle Quarter for sponsoring our new kit, read for the next season.’
Midfielder Macie says: ‘I enjoyed playing football and wanted to play for a team, now I have made friends with everyone, and the training and matches are helping me to advance my skills.’
Forward Freya adds: ‘I love playing for the Foxes. I’ve made some really good friendships and I get to play football every week, which I absolutely love doing!’
With the Lionesses lifting the Euro ’22 trophy last year, and now playing on the world’s biggest stage at the FIFA World Cup this summer, the Foxes continue to be inspired to play. Their determination saw them progress to the quarter final of the Norfolk League Cup last year.
Financial support and backing, like the sponsorship from Castle Quarter, is essential in order to help all girls, no matter their background, be involved in the game.
Gemma Hyde, marketing manager from Castle Quarter adds: ‘When we saw the Foxes were struggling to secure kit sponsorship, we wanted to give them a boost and support this brilliant bunch of local girls so they could play the game they love. Everyone at Castle Quarter wishes them a great season of football ahead, and win, lose or draw, we hope they all enjoy every match as they run out on the pitch to represent Waveney.’
