Tamsyn Morgans is a Norwich-based photographer, stylist, car boot fair addict and thrifty DIYer. Here she explains how there is ALWAYS space at home for another car boot find!
When did you first get into photography and why? What style of photography do you specialise in?
I have worked in the photographic industry for 25 years and, in that time, I have covered many roles, from makeup artist and stylist to model booking and production/locations. I have always loved photography, and it’s really in the last five years that I started making a living from it. I shoot interiors, products for small brands and makers, and more recently, fashion.
Any recent interesting commissions?
I recently had the pleasure of photographing the fabulous Shirlie Kemp at her beautiful home, the photos were featured in Hello magazine!
What is it about vintage that you love so much?
Firstly, there is the sustainability angle – buying preloved and second hand is a better way to buy. Secondly, I just love the colours, the patina, and the history behind vintage. It’s so satisfying to breathe new life into old textiles, artwork and furniture.
Favourite thrift DIY project to date – and any tips you can pass on to readers?
I love painting pieces to give them a new lease of life. Whether it’s a chair, table of cupboard, if it’s got an interesting shape and it’s made well, then you can easily transform it with a couple of coats of paint. Larger charity shops and auctions are great places to look for vintage furniture that won’t break the bank.
Is there ALWAYS space at home or on the garden for another car boot find?!
Always! I’m a lot more selective about what I buy nowadays – my home is quite curated, and I only bring something home if I absolutely love it. Your home should be all about things you love!
Finally, what are your hopes and dreams for the future?
The creative industry can be challenging to work in – it can be a bit all or nothing! So, my hopes and dreams are really to be able to carry on working on interesting projects, do more fashion and branch out into portraiture, and just to carry on being booked and busy!
