Bread Week – Food Museum, Stowmarket

The Food Museum, Stowmarket, is celebrating bread and baking with Bread Week from 25
May-2 June. Visitors will follow the journey a loaf takes as it’s grown, milled, proved, baked
and eaten at the museum through an array of exciting interactive activities and experiences.
Enjoy the sights and sounds of the museum’s beautiful 18th century watermill as it grinds
wheat into flour, along with exploring the picturesque crop fields around the 84-acre site.
Every day you can get hands-on at the wood-fired bread oven, cooking tasty flatbreads to
enjoy hot. On National Biscuit Day, 29 May, learn how to make family-favourite sweet treats
from scratch in a Biscuit Baking Workshop!
If you’re looking to level up your baking skills, join the 2-day Sourdough Baking Workshop on
30-31 May, where you’ll learn everything you need to know to make delicious sourdough at
home, from making a starter to baking to perfection.
Enjoy the best of local baking at the Mill Supper Club on 31 May – an evening of bread and
seasonal produce as part of a special 4-course meal. Hear from farmers, millers, and bakers
as part of this relaxed dinner and discussion in the stunning setting of the historic mill.
Every day, you can follow bread trails to discover the process and history of creating a loaf.
For an immersive experience, join the walking tour on 30 May where you’ll touch, smell and
taste your way around the museum, trying local grains, malts, yeasts, breads and breads.
Throughout the week, there’ll be an array of bread-themed tasters on offer in the museum’s
demonstration kitchen, as well as locally sourced specials in the on-site café Feast.
