The Feed – Christmas Donation Campaign
Donate to The Feed’s Christmas campaign and can make someone’s Christmas brighter.
The Social Supermarket supports over 5,000 people in Norwich who can’t afford enough food. The store, on Hall Road in the city, provides free fruit, vegetables, bread and hygiene products plus all the other basics at low prices – tinned items, milk, cheese, cereal, chilled and frozen food and more.
The Feed wants members to have a great Christmas too and enjoy some of the treats which lots of us take for granted.
Your donation will help The Feed provide:
- A full Christmas dinner for some of the members, served in the community café next door to the supermarket.
- Presents for children – The Feed will have its own Santa’s Grotto in the community café.

The first business on board to support this was R13 Recruitment. ‘This year we wanted to take a different approach to corporate gifting, so instead of giving physical gifts we wanted to focus our efforts to support a local charity. This will have a greater impact in our local community, as let’s be honest, this year has been incredibly tough for so many families. Every person should be able to feel the spirt of Christmas, let’s make sure this happens.’
Norwich Theatre – Christmas Appeal
The Norwich Theatre Christmas Appeal is raising funds to help the theatre bring the joy of creativity to people who may face barriers to exploring it on their own.
Creativity is a powerful force that can transform lives and is a vital tool to improve our wellbeing and self-perception. It offers a space to express feelings, find a sense of play and connect to a community.
By supporting Norwich Theatre’s Christmas Appeal, you can help us offer reduced price tickets to shows and activities through our My Theatre scheme; reach people who would not otherwise visit us by building partnerships with community organisations through our Encore scheme; and make visiting the theatre as easy and accessible as we can, with our Accessibility scheme.
The arts play an integral role in keeping the nation well. According to the Creative Health: The Arts for Health Wellbeing report, music therapy has been found to reduce the need for medication in 67% of people with dementia. An arts-on-prescription project has seen a 37% drop in GP consultation rates and a 27% reduction in hospital admissions. A study conducted within deprived communities in London found that, of those people who engaged with the arts, 79% ate more healthily, 77% engaged in more physical activity, and 82% enjoyed greater wellbeing.
Norwich Theatre has workshops for parents and their babies; explores the power of music with individuals living with mild to moderate dementia and their caregivers; provides sessions for refugees; and hosts an array of activities for people to come together and meet likeminded people.
The money raised will ensure Norwich Theatre can make free and discounted tickets and activities available to those who need them most.
This year, there is an opportunity to enter a raffle to win a one-of-a-kind collection of crocheted Sleeping Beauty character dolls created by Crazy Hippo Crochet, a backstage tour for the winner and a £150 Norwich Theatre gift voucher. Entries can be made at the Box Office or online.
Norwich Theatre will be collecting donations at the end of its Sleeping Beauty, The Fairy’s Tale and its Christmas shows at the Playhouse and Stage Two – with bucket collections and contactless options available. Donations can also be made online at https://norwichtheatre.org/friends-support/donate/

Norfolk and Norwich Hospitals Charity – Christmas Bauble Appeal
The Norfolk and Norwich Hospitals Charity has launched its Christmas Bauble Appeal to help decorate the Christmas tree and raise money for the Jenny Lind Children’s Hospital.
For each donation, the charity will hang a bauble on the tree alongside a message from you to remember someone special or to celebrate some good news.
The tree is situated outside the Charity Hub in the East Atrium Level 2 and will remain in place throughout December until Twelfth night on January 5.
You might have your own reason to hang a bauble – to thank a family member, a friend or a member of staff for their support.
The charity is asking for a donation of £5 for each Christmas message which will be displayed alongside a bauble on the tree.
All donations will go towards helping more parents to stay near their babies and children while they are being cared for overnight in the Jenny Lind Children’s Hospital.
Please email charity@nnuh.nhs.uk if you would like to make a donation to the Bauble Appeal and send a message to someone special or visit the Charity Hub in the East Atrium Level 2.
Suffolk Libraries – winter kindness campaign
Suffolk Libraries has launched its Warm Welcome campaign.
Warm Welcome builds on the success of last year’s cost of living campaign with all Suffolk libraries acting as warm spaces and many offering hot drinks and kindness racks offering free donated quality clothing. The East of England Co-op has kindly donated £1,000 of vouchers to enable libraries to offer free hot drinks again this year.
Suffolk Libraries has also teamed up with BBC Radio Suffolk to launch a ‘Be Kind to a Kid’ appeal for donations of new toys which can be donated to any of Suffolk’s 45 libraries. The appeal will run from 13 November to 8 December and the toys will then be passed on to families who might be struggling during the cost-of-living crisis and would benefit from an extra Christmas present this year.
As always, Suffolk’s libraries will also be there to provide many other free services which can make a huge difference to people during these tough times:
- Warm spaces – Anyone is welcome to visit the library just to keep warm and find someone to talk to. You don’t have to take part in an activity or be borrowing something, it’s ok just to come in to get out of the cold and be around people
- Libraries offer a huge range of free activities for children, families and older adults. They’re a great way to meet people and make new friends
- All libraries have free computer and wi-fi access which can be a lifeline for those without access at home who need to look for a job, apply for benefits or just look for help or support online
- The Pride & Periods service offers free menstrual items from many libraries
- At the heart of everything on offer are the helpful, expert staff who can signpost you to other organisations if you need specialist help or advice
- Everything at Suffolk Libraries is centred around improving people’s wellbeing with drop-in sessions, books and information and even a menopause support programme.
The Be Kind to a Kid appeal is accepting donations of new toys which can be donated to any of the 45 branch libraries in Suffolk:
- Toys must have the correct CE safety marks on
- Toys should be suitable for a child around 0-7 years old
- We’re unable to take in big items such as bikes, so something which would fit in a shoebox or shopping bag would be ideal
- We can take unused and unopened toys if they are still in their original packaging
- Some shops may be offering a buy one get one free or similar offer if you’d like to donate the spare toy
- Our mobiles and pop-up libraries cannot accept donations.

Chantry Place – Charity Christmas gift appeal
Chantry Place is once again supporting Alive UK, a local charity which aims to provide emergency support for people in crisis in Norfolk, with a Christmas gifts and treats appeal for local children and their caregivers.
Last year the appeal helped over 700 local children to receive a present, who wouldn’t have otherwise received one. People can donate unwrapped gifts, toys or chocolate treats, such as selection boxes, at a collection point on the lower ground floor of Chantry Place, opposite Boots, from now until Sunday 17th December 2023.
All gifts will be given to families in desperate need in Norfolk and all donations of new gifts are welcome for all ages, including babies, toys for children, presents for teenagers, or those that care for them.
Earlier this year, the Alive volunteers went to take food to a family who had received some gifts at Christmas. They were greeted at the door by two of the little girls. Dressed in tutus and fairy wings, the young girls were excited to show her all the gifts they had received and said it was “like magic”!
Alive UK, supported by Alive Church, is a registered charity. It has around 50 volunteers.

Norfolk County Council Children’s Services – Giving Tree appeal
In the lead up to Christmas, Norfolk County Council Children’s Services and Waterstones have teamed up again to launch the 2023 Giving Tree appeal, a Christmas project aimed at bringing joy to the county’s children in care. This is now the 17th year the appeal has run, becoming more successful and reaching more children every year. Last year’s appeal saw more than 1000 books bought and delivered to children in care across Norfolk.
The tree, based at the Castle Street branch in Norwich, will be decorated with hundreds of tags which each represent a child and the book they would like to receive for Christmas. There are requests for books from more than 800 Norfolk children in care, with some specifying books or authors and others seeking a certain genre or type of book.
Purchases can also be made online or pop into the Waterstones Store on Castle Street pick up a tag from the Children’s Department, purchase the book and the staff at Waterstones will make sure the book is gift wrapped and delivered in time for Christmas.
To support this initiative, please visit this branch anytime until Sunday 3rd December. Select a tag from the Giving Tree and buy the book. The books are then collected, wrapped and delivered for children in time for Christmas. They can make a difference to the county’s most vulnerable children at what can be a difficult time of year.
Please note all books must be purchased by Sunday 3rd December so they reach children in time for Christmas!
