Fearn Hambling recently stepped into the role of Chief Executive of Norfolk-based Priscilla Bacon Hospice Charity, which aims to enhance the care for patients and their loved ones at Priscilla Bacon Lodge and in the community. Here, Fearn shares her story
Who are you and what do you do?
I’m Fearn Hambling, and I’m proud to be the Chief Executive of Priscilla Bacon Hospice Charity. My role is to lead the charity as we support outstanding hospice and end-of-life care for the people of Norfolk and Waveney. That means everything from shaping our strategy and growing our income, to championing the difference we make to patients, families, and communities.
What has led you to becoming the Chief Exec of Priscilla Bacon Hospice Charity? What is your background?
I’ve spent my career working across private, charity and public sectors, working across commercial, strategy, and service developments. I’ve always been drawn to organisations that sit at the heart of their community – and to roles where I can help turn vision into practical action. When the opportunity came up to lead this charity through the next exciting phase, I knew it was the right fit. It’s a huge privilege to be part of a movement with such a strong heritage and a bold future.
What do you love about living and working in the county?
Norfolk is a very special place – beautiful, open, and full of character. There’s a real sense of community here, and people genuinely care about each other. I see that every day in the incredible support we receive for the hospice, whether through donations, volunteering, or simply spreading the word. It’s inspiring to be part of something that’s so deeply rooted in local values and pride.
What makes Priscilla Bacon Hospice a special charity, in your opinion? What can you tell us about the charity – and the new Priscilla Bacon Lodge?
Priscilla Bacon Hospice Charity is all about compassion, dignity, and making life count – even when time is limited. We exist to enhance hospice care, not only by funding the build of the incredible new Priscilla Bacon Lodge, but also by developing services that go beyond what the NHS can provide.

The new Priscilla Bacon Lodge opened in 2023, replaced the much-loved original hospice in Norwich. It’s a purpose-built facility designed with patients and families in mind – from private en-suite rooms and peaceful gardens to dedicated family spaces and a chapel. Specialist palliative and end-of-life care is delivered at the Lodge by Norfolk Community Health and Care NHS Trust (NCH&C), and we work in close partnership with them to ensure the best holistic care.
As a charity, we fund and develop additional services that complement this care – like bereavement support, complementary therapies, community outreach, and volunteer-led initiatives that help people feel comforted, connected, and supported.
What will you be responsible for, in your role?
I’m responsible for leading the charity’s direction and operations – ensuring we have the income, partnerships, and people we need to grow our impact. That includes working closely with our board of trustees, staff, volunteers, and supporters – as well as collaborating with local partners, including NCH&C, to meet evolving needs. My role is to make sure our mission is delivered with purpose and heart, and that we’re using our resources where they can make the biggest difference.
