Norwich Unity Hub is launching a fundraising appeal for a life-saving bench at Carrow House. Building Manager Nigel Seaward explains more

Norwich Unity Hub is calling on the local community to support a new initiative aimed at improving mental health support and preventing suicides. They have launched a fundraising appeal to raise £2,000 to install a suicide prevention bench at Carrow House, providing round-the-clock access to crisis support for anyone who may need it. The benches, developed by national charity Legend on the Bench, are designed as more than just a place to sit. Each one features clearly displayed contact numbers and QR codes linking directly to trained crisis support services, ensuring help is always within reach. Built-in lighting also allows the bench to remain visible and accessible at all times, acting as a beacon of hope during the darkest hours.

The initiative forms part of a wider movement to place these life-saving benches in parks and public spaces across the UK, helping to ensure no one feels alone during moments of crisis.

Nigel Seaward, Building Manager at Norwich Unity Hub said: “We know that mental health challenges can affect anyone, at any time. This bench will provide a visible, accessible point of support within our community – a simple but powerful reminder that help is always available.”

The chosen location, Carrow House, will provide a safe and accessible setting for the bench, with necessary permissions already secured. Norwich Unity Hub hopes that local residents, businesses, and organisations will come together to support the appeal and help make the bench a reality.

“Even small donations can make a real difference,” Nigel added. “By working together as a community, we can create something that could genuinely save lives.”

The fundraising campaign aims to reach its £2,000 target by 1st September, with all funds going directly towards the purchase and installation of the bench. Members of the public are encouraged to donate whatever they can and to help spread awareness of the initiative.
