Revelation – Four Centuries of Museum Exhibitions – Chequer House Gallery, King’s Lynn
As an addition to their existing exceptional artworks from 50 local artists, Chequer House Gallery are pleased to announce the Kings Lynn Festival will be exhibiting within the gallery with Revelations – Four Centuries of Museum Exhibitions. Created and curated by Dr Robert Anderson.
Museum exhibitions have been available to the public in Britain for over 400 years. Their nature and purpose have changed greatly over this period, as have the buildings in which they have been housed.
In the early period exhibitions tended to display the natural world, but it was not long before collections built up to reveal ancient civilisations. In the 19th century, many exhibitions provided information on industry and manufacturing processes, while art galleries allowed the public to see works which previously were only in private collections.
In recent times, the subject matter of exhibitions has proliferated, with strong emphasis on education.
Revelation offers a brief but intriguing overview of an important aspect of our cultural life.

10-12 King Street, Kings Lynn, PE30 1ES, from Thursday 10th July – Sunday 27th July.
