Norfolk and Norwich Art Circle’s 211th exhibition – Becket’s Chapel, Wymondham

October 6 - October 11

A historic Norfolk art group is bringing a touch of artistic history to Wymondham this autumn, with its 211th exhibition featuring a special black-and-white theme inspired by one of the county’s most celebrated artists, Sir Alfred Munnings RA.
The Norfolk and Norwich Art Circle will showcase paintings, drawings, mixed media works and sculptures at Becket’s Chapel in Wymondham from Tuesday 6 October to Sunday 11 October.

The exhibition is being staged in collaboration with the Munnings Art Museum in Dedham, Essex, and marks 65 years since the museum opened at the former home of Munnings – who was himself a member of the Norfolk and Norwich Art Circle.

The special black-and-white section will see members explore the use of monochrome through a variety of artistic styles and mediums, echoing Munnings’ own work and the Art Circle’s long association with black-and-white exhibitions.

The theme has a history stretching back more than 125 years. It was featured at the Art Circle’s 33rd and 35th exhibitions, held in May 1899 and May 1900, and was brought back for the group’s 2024 exhibition.

The Norfolk and Norwich Art Circle has been part of the county’s artistic life for more than 140 years. Established in 1885 following the famous Norwich Society of Artists associated with artists such as John Crome and John Sell Cotman, the Art Circle has counted a number of nationally recognised artists among its members, including Alfred Munnings, Edward Seago and Bernard Reynolds.

Today, the group has more than 200 members and continues to bring together artists working across a wide range of styles, mediums and levels of experience.

The exhibition will feature work in oil, watercolour and mixed media, alongside sculpture and
the special black-and-white section. Artwork will be available to view and purchase.

The 211th Norfolk and Norwich Art Circle exhibition will take place at Becket’s Chapel, Wymondham, NR14 0PH, from Tuesday 6 October to Sunday 11 October 2026, and will be open daily from 11am to 4pm.

A Private View will take place on Monday 5 October from 6pm to 8pm, and everyone is welcome to attend.

Entry to the exhibition is free.
