Uplifting stories for Norfolk and Suffolk
Felixstowe, Haverhill, Newmarket and Sudbury libraries are all offering free playful poetry workshops for children this half term.
‘Be Brave this Break’ is a series of four poetry workshops which are suitable for children aged seven and over. The workshops focus on tackling your fears in a light-hearted and positive way. If you’re scared of spiders, horrified by heights or terrified of tyrannosaurus rex, why not bring along your worst fears and together we will use poetry to help overcome your fears. Children must be accompanied by a responsible grown-up.
The workshops will be facilitated by Ben MacPherson, a playful poet and performer who has appeared at Latitude, the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, BBC Radio 2, 4extra and BBC Radio Suffolk. His first book ‘Serious Nonsense for Terribly Grown-Up People’ came out in 2023 with his follow up ‘Serious Nonsense for the Unbearably Festive’ following in Autumn 2024. Ben believes poetry is for everyone and when he isn’t writing and rhyming can be found playing with LEGO!
The workshops are being coordinated by Eleanor Root from Suffolk Libraries’ Community Arts Team.
The Be Brave This Break workshops offer a chance to get involved in games, craft activities and a little bit of writing as we face our fears together. Workshops last 45 minutes and are running in the four libraries as follows:
